Shanghai Health Commission reported a total of 2 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 19 local asymptomatic cases this morning, Sunday, October 9.

Of the21 new cases reported, 19 tested positive during central quarantine, while 2 tested positive during regular screening.

Two community cases...

The first case, locally transmitted, was a returnee to Shanghai from another province. The 37-year-old female was staying in Zhongxin Village, Chonggu Town in Qingpu District, and is reported to be showing light symptoms.

The second case, local asymptomatic, recently came to Shanghai from another province. The 35-year-old female was staying in Ruishi Hotel on Lanxi Lu in Putuo District.

As far as we can tell, the two cases did not show the same gusto for a good ol' knees up as yesterday's two visitors from Xinjiang, which – while displays a disappointing lack of joie de vivre – is good news for everybody else wishing to avoid a red code and quarantine.

Health code color rules...
Given the tsunami of red codes triggered by our hard-partying friends from Northwest China, Shanghai has clarified the rules that dictate the color of a health code.

It's a Red Code for those...

Testing positive during individual or mixed sample testing
Confirmed, asymptomatic or suspected COVID-19 cases
Close and secondary contacts ofconfirmed, asymptomatic or suspected COVID-19 cases
Overseas returnees undergoing central or home quarantine
Who have been to a high or medium-risk area

And a Yellow Code for those...

Discharged confirmed or asymptomatic cases still under home quarantine
Risk groups, as designated by inter-provincial data research
Failing to take part in PCR screening

Those that do have a red code should:

Avoid moving around
Take self-protection measures
Keep a distance from others
Get ready to answer a phone call
Cooperate with follow-up quarantine and control measures
Those quarantine and control measures for red coders seem to be either 7+3 central quarantine or seven days home quarantine, with the who-gets-what-and-why of it all not entirely clear.

So, if you're still in limbo, hang tough and hope for the best.

Think you've got the wrong color code and are being unfairly maligned?

You can lodge an appeal – dial the 12345 hotline or make an online appeal on the suishenban app (bottom right on the health code page, see below), where you can also check the reason for your red or yellow health code.
