據中國大熊貓保護研究中心（以下簡稱「熊貓中心」）消息，8月5日，熊貓中心大熊貓「翠翠」在臥龍神樹坪基地產下一雌性幼崽，體重270.4克。
據新華社報道，這是迄今為止全球圈養大熊貓出生體重最重的熊貓幼崽。
A female giant panda cub weighing 270.4 grams became the world's heaviest captive panda newborn ever registered, a panda research center in southwest China's Sichuan Province said on Wednesday.
這是在中國大熊貓保護研究中心臥龍神樹坪基地拍攝的大熊貓「翠翠」和她的幼仔（8月15日攝）。
CGTN表示，根據中國大熊貓保護研究中心的數據，8月5日晚上9點39分，16歲的熊貓翠翠在臥龍神樹坪熊貓基地產下這隻熊貓寶寶，刷新了去年熊貓中心大熊貓「美茜」產下的249克幼崽的記錄，成為熊貓界的「嬰兒肥」！
Cuicui, a 16-year-old panda, gave birth to the cub at the Wolong Shenshuping panda base at 9:39 p.m. on Aug. 5, breaking the previous birth weight record of 249 grams held by a panda born in 2021, according to the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda.
據悉，翠翠此次的產仔過程並不順利。
根據CGTN的報道，熊貓中心臥龍神樹坪基地主任魏榮平介紹，今年3月份，16歲的大熊貓「翠翠」完成自然交配；7月10日出現減食、活動量增大等妊娠行為；8月4日凌晨6點破羊水，但遲遲未有生產反應。
The cub's delivery process was worrisome as it took Cuicui a long time to exhibit any labor reaction after her water broke, according to Cheng Jianbin, Cuicui's keeper, according to CGTN.
負責照顧大熊貓「翠翠」的飼養員程建斌說：「『翠翠』一直沒有生產反應，我們很擔心它是否難產，幼崽會不會有缺氧危險，看着它在『產房』裡面踱步，情緒煩躁，我們焦急萬分，但也只能24小時監測觀察，靜靜守候和陪伴。
"We were all worried that she would have a difficult labor and that the cub could be in danger of an oxygen shortage," Cheng said. "Cuicui paced back and forth in the 'delivery room' and appeared agitated. Worried as we were, we could only monitor and observe her around the clock, waiting quietly and keeping her company."
沒想到『翠翠』給了我們一個大驚喜。」
"We didn't expect Cuicui to give us such a big surprise, giving birth to a 'heavyweight' baby," Cheng said.

The baby panda was eventually born nearly 40 hours after Cuicui's water broke.

其實，不僅是國內的網友對熊貓幼崽按捺不住喜愛之情，全世界都愛大熊貓！熊貓不僅是我國國寶，還是萌萌噠的「外交官」。
史密森學會國家動物園一隻在2020年8月出生的大熊貓幼崽獲名「小奇蹟」。
Officials at the Smithsonian, which runs the zoo, announced Monday morning that the cub born on August 21 would be named Xiao Qi Ji (shee-OW-chee-jee), which is Mandarin Chinese for 「little miracle.」
美國近13.5萬人經過五天的線上投票，最終選出了這個名字。《紐約時報》稱，為尊重中國傳統，熊貓寶寶出生百日後才取了這個名字。可見熊貓寶寶在外國的人氣依然很高！
The choice was the result of a five-day online poll that drew nearly 135,000 voters to choose between different Mandarin Chinese names. In a nod to Chinese tradition, the name was not chosen until 100 days after the birth.
「熊貓外交」可追溯到唐代，當時武則天贈送給日本天皇一對大熊貓。到了二十世紀五十年代，我國又恢復了「熊貓外交」。《紐約時報》今年2月對此進行了相關報道。

Mao made this proclamation in February 1972, when Nixon visited China to begin a historic rapprochement. The announcement stirred up what The New York Times described at the time as 「polite warfare」 among American zoos angling to host the pandas, and ushered in a half-century of so-called panda diplomacy between China and the United States.
哥倫比亞大學專門研究中國政治外交政策的政治學教授安德魯·內森(Andrew J. Nathan)表示，「熊貓很可愛，很討人喜歡，所以很符合那種友誼外交形象」。
「Pandas are very cute and lovable, so it fits into that kind of friendship diplomacy image.」 said Andrew J. Nathan, a political science professor at Columbia who specializes in Chinese politics and foreign policy.
飼養員還介紹道：「『翠翠』是一隻母性極強，很會照顧寶寶的大熊貓，最近一次生產是在2018年。」
The last time Cuicui gave birth was in 2018, and all her previous cubs weighed over 200 grams, Cheng said, adding that Cuicui is extremely maternal and very good at taking care of her young.
熊貓中心臥龍神樹坪基地主任魏榮平提到，每年春季，是大熊貓的「相親」季節。今年3月，熊貓中心2022年大熊貓繁殖工作正式拉開序幕。
Wei Rongping, director of the Wolong Shenshuping panda base under the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda, said the center selected pandas for breeding in March as spring is a typical mating season for the species.

CGTN還透露，今年大熊貓繁殖工作堅持優生優育，以高質量的繁育為核心目標，科學挑選大熊貓參與繁殖配種。
This year's giant panda breeding work insists on eugenics, with high-quality breeding as the core goal, and scientific selection of giant pandas for breeding.
隨着大熊貓陸續進入孕期，它們的飼養員正在晝夜不停地通過攝像機或現場監控熊貓狀態，及時提供數據進行分析，以確保熊貓幼仔的順利分娩和安全生長。
As the pandas are entering their gestation periods one after another, their keepers are taking shifts around the clock to monitor the bears through cameras or on-site, offering timely analysis to ensure the smooth delivery and safety of the cubs, Wei said.
6月以來，熊貓中心已有6隻待產大熊貓相繼產崽。截至目前，熊貓中心已收穫11隻新生幼崽，其中5對是雙胞胎。預計本輪產崽季將持續到8月底。
Since June, six pandas at the center have given birth to cubs. The center has welcomed 11 new cubs so far, with five pairs of twins. This birthing season is expected to last until the end of August.
